Honest, delivers what it promises. Price of hotels in Rio are absurd and skyrocket (given Olympic Games and World Cup coming soon), so even bad hotels have high prices. Imperial is also very expensive when you compare with other cities hotels, but at least the room is ok (not luxurious, but clean) and bathroom is also reasonable. My mattress (colchão) was a little wear (a little bent) but I had a good night of sleep anyway. Not a bad hotel.
as I said, all hotels in Rio are very expensive... Imperial hotel rated > 280 reais, but in other cities this same hotel level would be below 180 reals... I don´t have any complaint against Imperial Hotel itself, but I think that all hotels in Rio are a dirty mafia, that charges high prices for what they offer.

Thought I'd write a in depth review as there's not many views in English about Rio hotels - For location, it's not bad, if you're lazy, you can walk to Flamengo beach in 10 mins. The area itself is between the Centro and beach areas, so there's not much happening in the area, a few restaurants (supermarkets are within two mins walk). It's also next to Cetate metro station, which is handy as I would not reccommend using buses in Rio as the traffic is really bad. The metro system is small and the only tourist places you can get to on it are the Centro (museums and business district) and copacabana/ipanema beaches. Sugar loaf mountain and Christ The Redeemer you need to either get taxis or take the bus to reach. From Galileo airport I paid $12 (Reais) which is about £4 to get to the hotel (be careful cause taxis and probably anybody else charging you for anything will try and get the most out of you - haggle or it becomes expensive!) The hotel itself is OK. Rio is very expensive for hotels and the price will only go up with the world cup and olympics round the corner. The staff are very friendly and speak good enough English to get by. They do a good breakfast in the morning of pastries, cake, fruit, hot food (not full english!) and beverages. I had a standard room which was basic - double bed, bathroom, fridge and a cupboard, size was OK and they serviced the room every day. Bring your own towels cause they don't like you using theres at the beach! The hotel also has an internet room, swimming pool, small gym and sauna, all of which were clean. Safety wise I felt fine, just remember that foreigners stick out like a sore thumb so don't go looking flashy with jewellry hanging out. Nothing happened to me but you do get the sense that one wrong turn or bad luck and you can get yourself in trouble. The city is improving and there's a lot of police about, so don't go by the opinion you're going to get mugged!

The hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood, with shops, cafes, and a subway station virtually opposite the entrance. It's a great location for exploring the city and getting around easily. The staff is friendly and helpful, providing excellent service throughout our stay. The rooms are comfortable and equipped with all the basic amenities, including a fridge and a veranda. The breakfast included in the price is delicious and a great way to start the day.
All aspects of our stay were great, nothing to complain about.

Nice swimming pool and decent breakfast with plenty of options. The location was convenient to popular tourist areas, with easy access to public transportation.
The room was dirty and smelly, with stained sheets and mildew in the bathroom. The staff was unresponsive to our complaints and seemed uninterested in fixing the issues.

I had a delightful stay at the hotel in June, and it exceeded my expectations. The location was perfect, right across from the Catete subway entrance, making it incredibly convenient to explore the city. The subway system in Rio is clean and safe, comparable to those in major European cities. Additionally, the neighborhood was filled with kind and considerate locals, providing an authentic glimpse into Rio's city life. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast spread offered a variety of fresh fruits, cereals, and savories. Based on the recommendation of friends who had also stayed there, I had no issues with the room, linens, or bathroom. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the hotel and would definitely return.

This hotel in Rio is located in a very nice neighborhood and is incredibly convenient for exploring the city. It is virtually opposite the subway entrance, making it easy to get around. The staff is friendly and attentive, providing great service throughout my stay. The rooms, although a bit old-fashioned in terms of furniture, are comfortable and have all the necessary amenities, including a fridge and a veranda. And the best part? Breakfast is included in the price, and it offers a good variety of options such as fresh fruit, cereals, and savories.
All aspects of my stay at this hotel were satisfactory.

The internet speed was good and the breakfast offered plenty of options. The location was convenient, with nearby restaurants and a metro station. The bed was comfortable and allowed for a good night’s sleep.
The room was infested with cockroaches and the air conditioning kept breaking down. The pillows were uncomfortable and there was no hair dryer in the washroom.

This hotel is conveniently located near the business district and is just a short walk away from the beach. The nearby metro makes it easy to explore the surrounding area. Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit and cereals, and the friendly staff ensures a comfortable stay. With a clean and comfortable room, this hotel provides a great value for the price.
There were some minor issues with the WiFi not always working immediately, but the helpful staff were always available to provide assistance.
